About The Artist
Ashley Lazaro is a traditional artist, digital artist, and character designer who graduated California State University Channel Islands. Ashley did not attend any art classes until her first college year. After finishing college, she plans to either become a character designer for an animation studio or become a graphic novelist.
Ashley is a Central Valley native and loves cats. She also watches western and Japanese animation and reads graphic novels.
Artist Statement
I am interested in human facial expressions and use the idea in my artworks. I create art that reflects my personal emotions towards my everyday life. Before working on my pieces, I plan the expressions by staring into a small hand mirror and draw my facial expressions into a sketchbook. I do not emphasize realism in my artwork, but I use a cartoon style to over-exaggerate the human appearance.
Each artwork I create reflects my emotions as if it was a diary entry. Although I cannot express my bottled emotions with actions, I can speak to the viewer visually. My goal as an artist is to tell my emotional story and other imaginative stories I have thought from over the years.
